A head of the state’s consumer protection agency says unfortunately any time natural disasters hit, there’s an increase in charity scams.
Frank Frassetto says there are a few red flags to pay attention to. He says they include if you see a pop-up add online, or get an e-mail or phone call from someone asking for a donation to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. He says other things to watch out for are if the pitch is aggressive, and they want you to act quickly or wire money.
Frassetto says the best thing to do is work with a local agency.
