Investigators say last week’s house explosion in Madison was deliberately done, to cover up a murder. Chief Mike Koval says 59-year-old Steven Pirus is expected to faces multiple charges, in connection with Wednesday’s blast. They include first-degree intentional homicide, reckless endangerment and arson.
The body of 50-year-old Lee Anne Pirus was found in the rubble last Friday. Koval says she was shot to death “weeks, if not months” before the explosion.
Investigators believe Pirus tampered with a natural gas line to cause the explosion.
Koval says it’s too early to speculate on a motive for the murder.
