Construction will start soon on the Loop the Lake trail in Neenah and Menasha.
The city councils for both cities approved the contract for two trestle bridges last night. They’ll connect with trails and an on-street route to provide a loop around the southern half of Little Lake Butte des Morts.
Some Menasha council members talked about the possibility of building a new trail, by the sewage treatment plant. It could replace at least part of the on-street route across Doty Island.
Mayor Don Merkes says it’s a matter of where the funding would come from. He says it’s something that could be added in the future.
Pfeiffer Brothers Construction of Neenah will build the new trestle bridges over the winter. The company’s bid was almost $2.8 million.
The project is expected to be done in June of next year.
