A monument honoring World War I veterans is returning to Appleton.
The “Spirit of the American Doughboy” has gone through several repairs and restorations since it was put up in 1934.
Sculpture Valley President Alex Schultz says the sculptures were made out of weaker material. Schultz says they decided to do a full recasting of the memorial in bronze.
He says there are similar situations with other Doughboys around the country.
He says the old sculpture will be used in an exhibit at the History Museum at the Castle.
The new Doughboy will be installed today, and a re dedication and commemoration event will happen on Veterans Day.
