The city of Appleton is officially asking developers for ideas for a library project in the downtown.
The city council approved what’s called a “request for proposals” last night.
City spokesman Chad Doran says they’re looking to include the library in a mixed-use project. He says there’s a set area of the downtown where it would have to go.
The mixed-use project could also include retail, housing, and office space.
Developers have until January 12 to submit a proposal.
The city has been looking at building a new library, or renovating the existing one, for several years. The library board decided to pursue a mixed-use development, after touring some other libraries.
