Calumet County is joining 47 other counties in lawsuits against prescription drug companies over opioids.
Calumet is the first one in the Fox Cities area to get involved in a suit. Kimberly Tenerelli is the county’s corporation counsel. She says companies promote using opioids for long-term use. She says they should only be used for the short term, and it hurts the counties.
Tenerelli says the goal isn’t always to get large sums of money, but to at least change behaviors over the long term.
Manitowoc, Marinette, and Waushara counties also joined the latest lawsuit.
Waupaca, Shawano, and Fond du Lac counties are part of the first one.
