A Democratic lawmaker wants criminal suspects who are found not guilty to have their DNA samples destroyed.
Representative Gary Hebl of Sun Prairie says the way things are done now is unfair to innocent people. The current law makes people request the samples be destroyed, otherwise they will remain in the system.
Hebl says it assures people won’t be penalized because their DNA is already available.
The state automatically collects samples from anyone arrested for a violent felony.
