A 47-year-old Oshkosh man is charged with the deaths of two women in a crash between a car and a train in Oshkosh last Friday night.
Shawn Schettle was in Winnebago County Court yesterday, and his bond was set at $500,000. Prosecutors filed several charges, including two counts each of homicide by driving drunk, and hit and run causing death.
Oshkosh police officer Kate Mann says Schettle and one of the women left a home in the 600 block of Boyd Street. She says witnesses saw a man fitting Schettle’s description running from the scene of the crash. She says officers later found Schettle at a home in the 700 block of Bowen Street.
Prosecutors say Schettle failed field sobriety tests. His blood-alcohol level was 0.074. That’s just below the 0.08 threshold, and investigators are waiting for the results of a blood draw.
They say Schettle was also driving with a suspended license.
Forty-three-year-old Jessica Roby and 37-year-old Emily Mueller of Oshkosh were killed.
