The organizer of an online petition that calls for anyone charged with a violent domestic crime to remain in jail, without bail, says the murder suicide in Harrison last week hit home.
Katie Huskey is a domestic abuse advocate and an assault victim. She says she lives near the area where Calumet County Sheriff’s deputies say Robert Schmidt killed his wife Sara, days after she filed for divorce.
Robert was released on a $10,000 bond on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault, after an attack on his wife on New Year’s Eve.
Huskey says the petition will be sent to Governor Walker, Attorney General Brad Schimel, and other lawmakers. The petition can be found by searching under domestic violence at change.org.
