A 60-year-old Oshkosh woman is facing charges for the deaths of three infants, and her daughter doesn’t understand why her mother wasn’t arrested in the 1980s.
Prosecutors say Nancy Moronez confessed to killing the babies. Her daughter, Ami Brunka, went to police in 2015. She says Moronez admitted to killing Moronez’s 18-day-old son.
Prosecutors say she also suffocated two other babies in her care.
Moronez was living in the Milwaukee area. At the time, the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office ruled that the babies died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
The medical examiner’s office says everyone who worked on the cases is long dead. Asked why investigators didn’t grow suspicious with the second death, Franklin Police Sgt. Jeremy Fadness said that’s a good question.
Prosecutors say when Moronez confessed, she told investigators that she “can’t take kids that constantly cry.”
