A nun living in Oshkosh is celebrating her 105th birthday today.
Sister Mary Urban was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1913. Spokeswoman for the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother Emily Anderson says Sister Urban came to the U.S. in 1935. She says she spent time as a nurse in Wichita, Kansas before moving to New Jersey.
Anderson says Sister Urban became known as “the flying nun of New Jersey” because she worked hard and always went at full throttle. She says she helped lead the health care system for New Jersey.
She says Sister Urban retired in 2007 at 94 and moved to Oshkosh. Anderson says they’re celebrating 105 years of life and 82 years of religious life with a luncheon today.
