A national group is nominating two local museums for a prestigious award.
The History Museum at the Castle in Appleton and the National Railroad Museum in Ashwaubenon are in the running for the 2018 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. There are 15 finalists in the museum category and five of them will win.
Matthew Carpenter is the executive director of the History Museum at the Castle. He says the Institute for Museum and Library Services is a federal organization and they’re honored to be recognized by an organization of that stature.
The medal is the nation’s highest award that’s given to libraries and museums for community service. The winners will be announced later this spring.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City is among the other nominees.
