The trial of a 48-year-old man charged with starting a deadly standoff in Neenah is over.
A jury found 48-year-old Brian Flatoff guilty of all 14 criminal charges and rejected Flatoff’s claim that he was suffering from a mental illness. Hostage Michael Funk was shot and killed by two Neenah police officers when he tried to escape.
Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says a lot of people were looking for healing. He says they include Funk’s family and friends and the Neenah community.
The jury ruled Flatoff was responsible for Funk’s death. Flatoff got into a shootout with officers inside before Funk ran outside with a gun. The officers were cleared of any criminal charges.
Flatoff will be sentenced on May 16th.
