Two local school districts are the latest in the area to be recognized for preparing for cardiac emergencies.
Project ADAM is designating Hortonville and Shiocton as Heart Safe schools.
Whitney McMullin is the district nurse in Hortonville. She says to qualify they had to train staff at each building and they need to do two drills a year. She says they also have to have AEDs readily accessible, and a goal of shocking a person within three minutes of them collapsing.
McMullin says if a heart stops beating performing CPR and using an AED greatly increases the chance of survival. She says they received a grant from Project ADAM to add two new AEDs in the district.
