Democrats are meeting in Oshkosh this weekend for their annual convention.
Jim Simmons is a political science professor at UW-Oshkosh. He says party conventions aren’t as significant as they once were. He says the most important feature of the convention is for the party to put together a common theme for how they’ll run the fall campaign no matter who the candidate is.
Simmons doesn’t think the party organization is going to be as helpful as previous years to individual candidates. The Democratic Party won’t endorse a candidate for governor and Simmons says state party endorsements don’t mean much anymore anyway.
