Governor Walker’s office says the decision by President Trump’s administration to separate children from parents who cross the border illegally is a federal issue.
Democrats are criticizing Walker for honoring a request from Arizona officials to deploy Wisconsin National Guard troops to bolster border security.
Walker spokeswoman Amy Hasenberg says Trump’s policy is a federal one, and anyone with concerns should contact federal lawmakers. She says Wisconsin troops will handle administrative work at the border, and the federal government is footing the bill.
