A local company will build an amphitheater in Jones Park in downtown Appleton, and donate it to the city.
Miron Construction announced the $1 million gift for the company’s 100th anniversary.
CEO Dave Voss says he came up with the idea after looking at the design for the park with Mayor Tim Hanna. He says the drawings included a location for a future amphitheater, and he asked Hanna about it. Voss says the mayor told him the city didn’t have enough money to build it right away.
The city council still has to approve the donation.
Miron plans to start construction in the middle of next month, and the amphitheater would be finished in October.
The company was founded in Appleton on N. Story Street, one block from College Avenue. Miron’s headquarters are now in Fox Crossing.
Miron is also overseeing the overall renovations at Jones Park, after leading the construction of the Fox Cities Exhibition Center next door. Jones Park is scheduled to reopen sometime in the middle of next year.
