Wisconsin’s sales tax holiday starts today and there are some unexpected items included in it.
The state revenue department says it was thinking about back-to-school shopping when making the list but anyone can take advantage of it. That means people won’t be charged sales tax for things like wedding apparel and costumes because they’re clothing by definition. They just have to cost under 75 dollars.
Secretary Rick Chandler says the state is using a budget surplus to make up lost revenue. He says the idea is to return some of that money to taxpayers.
Items like shoes, laptops, and diapers are included as well.
Over 20 states have a tax-free holiday. It also applies to online purchases. It starts today and runs through Sunday.
