Money played a role in yesterday’s primary, but the head of a watchdog group says that doesn’t mean the winner spent the most.
Jay Heck is with Common Cause. He says outside groups shelled out a great deal of money to back the Republicans in the U.S. Senate race.
Businessman Kevin Nicholson lost to state Sen. Leah Vukmir of Brookfield. Heck says an out-of-state billionaire spent almost $15 million backing Nicholson. He says Vukmir also had multi-millionaires backing her.
Heck says of the eight Democratic candidates for governor, state school superintendent Tony Evers didn’t spend the most. He believes Evers won because he had the most name recognition.
