The Shopko store in Neenah is on the latest list of locations that will be closing.
The Ashwaubenon-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday. Shopko announced last week that the Menasha and Seymour stores were shutting down. The one on Green Bay’s west side on Military Avenue will also close.
Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert says he was keeping his fingers crossed that they would survive the cut. He says he thought Shopko would still strategically place stores in areas where it would still make money.
The Neenah store is along I-41 by the Winneconne Avenue exit. It leaves Walmart as the only big-box retail shop within the city. The Shopko Express on Appleton’s northeast side by Ballard Road and Evergreen Drive will also close. The company announced last week that the Shopko Express on East College Avenue in Buchanan would shut down.
