The story: Take three delicious, malicious wives, add three miserable, unloving husbands – and chill. That’s the recipe of Michele Lowe’s tantalizing new comedy that had Broadway audiences cheering. The Smell of the Kill revolves around Nicky, Debra, and Molly who have tolerated one another during once-a-month dinners for years. While their unseen spouses play golf in the dining room, the women exchange confidences for the first time revealing that all three marriages are on the brink of disaster and all three women are facing the challenges of their lives. Nicky’s husband has been indicted for embezzlement, Molly’s husband is stalking her and Debra’s husband is leaving her for another woman. When the men mistakenly lock themselves in a basement meat locker the women are faced with a life-or-death decision – should they leave the men out in the cold – permanently – or let them thaw?

Open auditions for “The Northeast Wisconsin Passion Play,” will be held on Thursday, January 12th with appointments available between 6:00 and 9:00 pm and on Saturday, January 14th with appointments available between 9:00 am and noon.

The audition, open to adult and high school-aged singers, actors and dancers, will be held at the Xavier Fine Arts Center, 1600 W. Prospect Avenue, Appleton.

Those interested in auditioning can listen to samples of audition music, view other audition materials, find more information and register for an audition by visiting the production’s website: www.newpassionplay.org.

This evening's open house will feature those intriguing mounds that dotted (and still dot) the Wisconsin landscape when the European settlers first arrived. Come learn about their history and the ideas as to where, how and why the conical, linear, effigy and pyramidal mounds were built. You may be surprised to learn that Wisconsin is the most prominent location of effigy mounds. Learn about the connection between Wisconsin's Aztalan site and the famous Cahokia city near St. Louis. You will come to appreciate the importance of continuing to preserve these impressive archeological feature.

The 62nd Annual Appleton Flag Day Parade will be a tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard with a theme of "Honoring Traditions" to celebrate the U.S. Flag and all it stands for.

The BBC Concert Orchestra is celebrating an anniversary of its own in 2012 with a 60th Anniversary North American tour. Known as “serious musicians with a sense of humor” the BBC Concert Orchestra’s rock solid technique allows them to cross musical boundaries, performing time-honored masterpieces with grace as well as the latest creations from resident composers including Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood.

Principal Conductor Keith Lockhart, also of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, has selected a program featuring Elgar, Britten and Butterworth and paired it with a guest performance by the talented young cello soloist, Sophie Shao. Listen for a special musical introduction composed by Appleton’s own Maury Laws.

Whether you have been a fan of symphony music for decades or you have never attended a concert, the BBC Concert Orchestra promises an enlightening evening of music from across the pond.

Canadian singer/songwriter Justin Hines’ latest album, “Days to Recall,” marks his American debut. His music is uplifting and heartfelt, overflowing with natural optimism, although he is no stranger to challenges. Hines has Larsen Syndrome, a joint dislocation condition that confines him to a wheelchair. He jokes, “I’ll never be a guy who relies on choreography,” but his live performances are delivered with honest emotion and a passion for music that shines through every song.

But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.

This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and New York. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.
