A report shows the number of communities around the state that created a wheel tax jumped from four to 27 over a six-year period.
The non-partisan Wisconsin Policy Forum says local governments of all sizes are turning to the revenue source. Appleton started collecting a 20-dollar per-year tax three years ago. Governor Walker says he’s not going to stop communities from taking that step. He says it should be up to local officials.
When considering inflation, the study found state funding for local road projects dropped by two-point-three percent over 10 years. Walker put more money into local roads in the current budget.
