The head of a nonprofit that serves the homeless in the Fox Cities says they moved people from shelters to hotels, because of the pandemic, and they’re thriving.
Pillars Executive Director Joe Mauthe says it’s no surprise when people have a better living environment, other things improve as well.
He also thinks they’ve probably saved three to five lives in the community, with the steps they’ve taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
Mauthe expects the shelters to open at the end of the month, but things will look different. He says they’ll have partitions, and new health and hygiene practices.
Mauthe was a guest on AM Fox Valley.
