A development project along the Fox River in Appleton isn’t going to happen anymore.
The Fox River Navigational System Authority voted not go ahead with a proposed Fox Locks visitors center. CEO Jeremy Cords says the board doesn’t think it would be responsible to spend money on a facility at a time when gatherings are limited because of a pandemic.
The multi-million dollar facility was unveiled a couple of years ago. He says it would have been a place where school children and others could come year round to learn more about the history and operation of the locks. Cord doesn’t think the visitors center will ever be built. But he wants to come up with another way to teach people the impact the locks have had on the community over the past 150 years.
