The Oshkosh Corporation has a new major contract with the Army and workers will be making a series of improvements to one of its models.
The seven-year, $476 million deal is for the next fleet of FMTVs.
Pat Williams of Oshkosh Defense says they’ve been making the previous version since 2009. He says the new model will be significantly different.
Williams says they’ll use their existing workforce to make the vehicles. He says the Army wants to be able to carry larger payloads to support troops in the field. He says they’re going to upgrade the suspension and survivability of the vehicles.
Williams expects they’ll spend the first two years of the contract developing and testing the new model.
