Some Appleton police officers are licensed drone pilots, and the department has three of the machines.
Asst. Chief Larry Potter says they started with a larger one, and they’re trying to get a grant, so they can add heat-detecting technology. He says they can use that drone in searches.
The department also got two smaller ones. Potter calls them “pocket drones,” and they’re about the size of a dinner plate. He says if they have a situation, they can fly them into a house to see what’s going on, without having to send officers inside.
