There’s a proposal to change Appleton’s city government structure, and possibly hire a city administrator to work with a mayor.
The human resources committee wants staff to put together information on what other communities around the state are doing.
Ald. Cathy Spears says it doesn’t hurt to ask questions, including whether there’s a better form of government.
Ald. William Siebers says the city has been around for more than 150 years, and they’ve survived without a city manager or administrator. He says while there are some concerns about the qualifications that are needed to run for mayor, he believes there are some very qualified candidates in the running right now.
Longtime Mayor Tim Hanna isn’t running for re-election, after 24 years in office.
There will be eight candidates on next month’s primary ballot.
