Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Event Date: October, 26 2013

Event Times: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

The Museum will offer special programs for families In partnership with the Children’s Department at the Appleton Public Library in celebration of this holiday. Day of the Dead is an ancient observance brought to the Fox Valley from Mexico.

Celebrated annually on November 1 and 2, the tradition has links to an Aztec festival celebrating the goddess Mictecacihuatl and Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Deceased friends and family are remembered with home altars or elaborate displays at their graves.

Special activities are planned at the History Museum on Saturday, October 26. Families will receive a discount on Museum admission and can help decorate an altar, paint their faces, decorate sugar skulls, and participate in an activity to remember ancestors.

The Library will offer extended programming beginning October 14 through November 4, including themed story times and activities. Please visit the www.apl.org for details. One child admitted free with paid adult; Museum members free.
