Sorry, no Pro Bowl!

Just can't do it! The NFL's version of an All-Star game, the Pro Bowl, has become such a farce that we just can't justify 4 hours of airtime to that lousy "game". It's nothing more than an offensive exhibition, since no one wants to hit, tackle or exert more than the bare minimum. I know the NFL wants to keep some form of Pro Bowl game going, but this year's game might be the swan song. I don't know of anyone who watches or listens to the whole thing...it's just not worth it! We will air the Super Bowl though, immediately following Badger basketball on Sunday the 3rd at about 5pm!

Cold, huh?

The coldest air we've felt in a long time has decended upon us, and reminds me of the coldest days I can remember.

Growing up in the upper Midwest, I can recall a cold stretch we had in South Dakota in the mid-70's. Had to be -20 to -25 for about 4 straight nights---and that was the air temperature! That was when "plug-ins" were popular--when you'd actually plug in your car to keep the oil pan reasonably warm. Don't see those much anymore! Take it easy and be careful in this nasty cold!

Red Smith wrap-up

Big thanks to all that attended or participated in the 48th Red Smith Sports banquet on Tuesday night! What a fun night! Goose Gossage, Mark Murphy and the funny man of the night, Pat Williams of the Orlando Magic!
I assisted Chuck Kunitz with some of the emcee duties on Tuesday night, and I'm honored to be named as the primary emcee beginning next year for the 49th annual banquet. Chuck's not going anywhere--I'll need his help in the years to come!! Thanks again!

Gassy?

Just a quick observation. Sure, I know that many factors go into the price of a gallon of gas, but I stopped at a station in a small, resort-type town in Colorado last week, and paid $2.78 a gallon! That's over 40 cents LESS than what we are paying per gallon here! And that was in a small town, not the Denver metro...go figure!

Packers-Vikings Three!

I think the third Packers-Vikings matchup will end differently than the second battle. Why? At least three things come to mind.
1. The Vikings just aren't the same outside of the comfy Metrodome. Take away the home crowd and the climate control, and The Vikes just don't cut it outdoors. Plus, it will be about 19 degrees at kickoff.
2. The Packers adjusted very well after the slow start in Minny. Don't come out rusty on Saturday night and the Vikes will be in trouble.
3. Adrian Peterson can't do this again....can he?
