Meet Wisconsin's spelling bee contestant

It's one of the things I cover on the PhilCast each and every year and it's one of those annual rituals of spring. It's the Script's National Spelling Bee, as wholesome as apple pie and as all-American as baseball.

The contest starts today with preliminaries and concludes on ESPN live on Thursday evening this week.

This is Wisconsin's lone speller in the contest, Aisha Kahn from Madison, a 7th-grader who enjoys baking, not just spelling.

I always root for the kid from Wisconsin to least make it to prime time on ESPN in the finals. We'll see!

Now I guess I better use spell check before posting this blog piece. I wonder if spell check in this electronic age is making for poorer spellers? I bet it is.
