K-Rod, Brewers blow lead; drop series to Padres

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Milwaukee closer Francisco Rodriquez blew his fifth save of the year as Rene Rivera tied the game with a solo homerun to left field.  Rivera then gave San Diego (62-70) a 3-2 win over Milwaukee (73-60) in the bottom of the tenth with an RBI single off reliever Zach Duke (L, 4-1) Wednesday night at Petco Park.

Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo tossed six innings of shutout ball, giving up three hits while walking three in his twelfth no-decision of the year.  Gallardo threw 109 pitches in those six innings as he was unable to locate his curveball the throughout his start, a start that saw him record zero strikeouts.  The Milwaukee defense turned three double-plays on the night, a major reason Gallardo was able to get to the sixth inning.

Elian Herrera starting in place of Jean Segura at shortstop, gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple that scored Lyle Overbay all the way from first.  Herrera would later score on a past ball as the Crew took a 2-0 lead to the bottom half of the inning.

Milwaukee has an off day on Thursday before making the short trip up to San Francisco for a three game series against the Giant beginning on Friday night.  You can hear that game on your Fox Cities voice of the Milwaukee Brewers 1150-WHBY starting at 8:40 p.m. with the pre-game show, first pitch is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. from AT&T Park.
