Packers host Chiefs in preseason finale
The 2014 preseason comes to end Thursday night as the Green Bay Packers host the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field. The Packers are 2-1 in the exhibition season while the Chiefs check in at 1-2.
It will be the last chance for players to impress General Manager Ted Thompson and Head Coach Mike McCarthy as rosters will need to be trimmed from 75-players to 53-players by 3pm Saturday.
While it appears the main positions are all but set, a few fringe questions still loom in Green Bay; back-up quarterback, tight end, #wide receivers, and safety being the big spots:
Quarterback - Who will be Aaron Rodgers backup? Matt Flynn or Scott Tolzien? Also, will the Packers keep 2 or 3 on the roster with no practice squad eligibility available for either player.
Tight End - How many will the Packers keep? Six players are currently in the mix to make the team. Who will start? It appears an injury to Brandon Bostick has given that job to rookie Richard Rodgers. What's in store for Ryan Taylor, Jake Stoneburner, and Andrew Quarless?
Wide Receiver - While the top three spots are set (Nelson, Cobb, Boykin), what happens from their? Second round pick Davante Adams is a lock for the team but does that mean he's number 4? Jeff Janis, Alex Gillet, Myles White and Kevin Dorsey are all vying for the last spot or two depending if they keep 5 or 6.
Safety - A solid group is led by starter Morgan Burnett. From there, Micah Hyde, Haha Clinton-Dix, and Sean Richardson have all made their push to start. Does Chris Banjo make the cut?
Packers and Chiefs will kickoff at 6pm Thursday night. Coverage begins on 1150 WHBY at 4pm.
