Friends to square off for Neenah mayor

Two well-known candidates are in the running for Neenah mayor in April.

Rep. Dean Kaufert announced yesterday that he'll challenge three-term incumbent Mayor George Scherck.

Scherck says it will be an interesting race, because both of them have track records. He says voters are going to have an interesting choice between two relatively well-known candidates with varying experiences.

The two are friends, and Kaufert says he's going to run a positive campaign. He says it's never easy to run against a friend, and he sees it as he's running for the position of mayor.

Kaufert spent the last 23 years in the Assembly. Before that, he was on the Neenah city council with Scherck.
