Walker backs anti-heroin bills

A series of bills that target the state's heroin problem are working their way through the Legislature, and Governor Walker says he wants to sign them as soon as possible.

An Assembly committee approved three of them yesterday, including one that would grant immunity to first responders who administer a drug that counteracts overdoses. The other two would give immunity to people who call 911 to report an overdose, and allow communities to run prescription drug collections.

Walker says the state needs all the tools it can use to fight the heroin problem.

A fourth bill would require people to show an ID, when they pick up certain prescription drugs.

All four proposals come from Republican Rep. John Nygren of Marinette. His daughter suffers from a heroin addiction.
