Outagamie Co. on the lookout for rural drugs

Law enforcement agencies say drug dealers are leaving cities, in favor of rural areas, in parts of northeast Wisconsin, because they feel they're less likely to get caught.

Outagamie County Sheriff Brad Gehring says the actual selling of the drugs is happening in both areas, but they're seeing significant marijuana growing operations in rural parts of the county. He says last year deputies found three areas where people grew more than 25 pounds. Gehring says they're partnering with Appleton police, fight drug dealers, wherever they are.

Sheriff's departments in far northeast Wisconsin are pooling their resources...and working with federal agents, to crack down on drug dealers.

They're especially targeting ones that try to set up heroin networks from Milwaukee and Chicago.
