Group explains plans for Appleton refugees

The group that's spearheading the effort to help about 75 refugees settle in Appleton presented its plans last night.

Myriam Mwizerwa is the executive director of World Relief Fox Valley in Oshkosh, and she spoke at a diversity forum, at the Appleton public library. She says some of them are already here, and they're getting a lot of support from different agencies and churches.

Mwizerwa says they're looking for places for them to work, and the refugees are trying to learn English. She says they're working with tutors at Fox Valley Technical College, and the Fox Valley Literacy Council.

They're coming to Appleton from Myanmar, the Congo, and Iran.

About 150 people were at last night's forum, to learn about the refugees.
