Hortonville hopes lower fees spark development

Village leaders in Hortonville hope slashing building permit fees will lead developers to start building new homes there.

The neighboring town of Greenville has been going through a housing boom for the past several years.

Hortonville Administrator Patrick Vaile says the fees for single and two-family homes are around $2,000, instead of over $4,000. He says the planned Highway 15 bypass could make Hortonville more desirable.

Vaile says Hortonville is only six miles farther from Appleton than Greenville, but he thinks that was enough distance to keep people from building there, during the recession.
