Library circulation numbers down slightly

The Appleton Public Library's circulation numbers declined slightly last year.

At the same time, e-books and online audio books jumped in popularity. People checked out nearly 1.4 million items, and that's down five percent from 2012. E-book use was up 85 percent, and there was a 46 percent jump in the number of audio books that were accessed, through the library's website.

Assistant director Tasha Saecker says more people attended programs last year, at all age levels.

The library didn't add as many new items to its collection. The figure of nearly 22,000 was down 36 percent.
