County might lower speed on Hwy. JJ

A stretch of Highway JJ in Outagamie County might have a lower speed limit soon.

The county's highway committee will consider the recommendation of an engineer to reduce it to 40 miles an hour, near Appleton North and Fox Valley Lutheran high schools.

Highway commissioner Al Guerts says most of that area is 45 miles an hour, with a small stretch at 35. He says they would look at changing that whole area to 40 miles an hour.

Guerts says that stretch could extend to Highway 47 to the west, and just beyond Appleton North on the east end.

The speed limit around the schools has been an issue for several years. Guerts says the county ordered another study, after the students returned to class last fall.
