Latest school accountability bill dropped

The latest school accountability bill didn't go anywhere this week, but Governor Walker says he wants to see a similar proposal on his desk later this year.

The failed bill called for closing failing public schools, or allowing them to reopen as private charter schools.

Walker says his priority is to implement accountability standards.

Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay worries some Republicans will try to pass a bill that helps private schools, at the expense of public schools. He says school choice lobbyists are pressing hard for a bill that favors them.
