Plans in works to reuse Catholic Central school

A soon-to-close Catholic elementary school in downtown Appleton might not be shut down for long.

The St. Francis Xavier system is consolidating at the elementary level, and Catholic Central will close at the end of the school year.

St. Mary Parish owns the building, and business administrator Brian Dresang says they want to partner with five agencies. He says they all focus on Birth to 5 programs.

Dresang says the Appleton school district would use the school as a 4-K site, and Project Bridges Day Care wants to move in. The other programs are UW-Oshkosh's Head Start, Outagamie County's early intervention program, and the Even Start family literacy program.

Dresang says there's still a long way to go in the process, and they would need to raise money to make some renovations. He says they hope to be ready, at the start of the next school year.
