Walker approves deer management changes

The DNR is changing the way it manages local deer populations.

Governor Walker approved a series of rules over the weekend, on the recommendation of a Texas deer expert. One of the changes redraws the state's deer management units, using county lines. The state will also create local advisory groups, to meet with the DNR, and evaluate the local herd.

The most controversial move ends in-person deer registration, but Whitetails Unlimited president Jeff Schinkton doesn't think that's a very big deal. He says most states use a phone or online registration process.

The state's natural resources board endorsed the changes last month. The governor signed off on them during an NRA meeting...over the weekend.
