Area might get break from sub-zero temps

We're closing in on 40 days with sub-zero temperatures for the winter, but there could be some light at the end of the tunnel.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Last says once we get through today, the mercury will moderate, and we could see the mid-to-upper 20s by Thursday. He says the snow could start melting sometime next week, with possible temperatures in the 30s.

But Last says that will be short-lived. He predicts an active weather pattern in the coming weeks, with mild snowy weather, followed by a cold snap. Last says we'll also probably get at least one snowstorm that drops over eight inches, within the next month.
