Logs spill, leave mess on Richmond St.

An accident involving a logging truck closed part of Richmond Street for about an hour yesterday afternoon.

Appleton police Sgt. Dave Lund says the semi was turning from a Highway 41 off-ramp onto Richmond Street, when two support pillars broke, and logs spilled onto the road.

He says it doesn't appear that the truck was overloaded. Lund says it appears that wear and tear, and extended exposure to cold weather, may have caused the problem with the truck's support pillars.

Lund says the logs damaged a couple of cars, but nobody was hurt. He says public works crews were able to quickly clear the logs from the road.
