Trial ordered in hit-and-run death

A Poy Sippi man will stand trial for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Appleton.

An Outagamie County judge ordered a trial for 20-year-old James Erdmann, Jr. during a preliminary hearing yesterday.

Erdmann is accused of hitting 61-year-old Robert Joosten of Little Chute, while Joosten was riding his bike home from work. The accident happened on E. Wisconsin Avenue, early last November 9.

Appleton police Sgt. Neal Rabas was the only witness today. He testified that investigators used traffic cameras, and other surveillance video, to track a red truck that passed through the area, around the time of the accident.

Erdmann was seen stopping at a Little Chute gas station, shortly after the crash.
