Senate passes RTA, Assembly vote unlikely

A bill that would allow communities in the Fox Cities to create a regional transit authority, easily passed the Senate yesterday.

It's unlikely that the Assembly will vote on it, though.

The RTA would fund mass transit systems, like Valley Transit.

Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay says allowing the RTA is a common sense move.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says mass transit funding should be handled on the state level, and the RTA isn't necessary.

An RTA board would be able to raise the sales tax, up to a quarter-cent.
