Assembly passes tax cuts

Governor Walker's half-billion dollar income and property tax cut proposal cleared its first hurdle yesterday, by passing the Assembly.

Republicans argued the tax cut would boost the state's economy.

Rep. John Nygren of Marinette says returning extra money to the taxpayers is the responsible thing to do.

Democratic Rep. Gary Hebl of Sun Prairie says the bill increases the structural deficit, and favors the wealthy.

Majority Republicans in the Senate are expected to make changes to the plan. They might put more money in the state's rainy day fund.
