Valley Transit reacts to Vos' RTA comments

Valley Transit officials are reacting to comments made by a Republican leader in the Assembly, about the proposed Fox Cities Regional Transit Authority.

The Senate approved a bill yesterday, to create one, but Assembly Speaker Robin Vos argues that it isn't needed. He says Congressman Reid Ribble worked to block a federal funding cut, a couple of years ago.

Valley Transit spokeswoman Nikki Voelzke says that bill expires at the end of the year, so they could still lose the funding. She says an RTA would provide financial stability.

Communities would have to approve a referendum, to join the RTA.

The RTA board could impose a sales tax of up to a quarter-cent.
