Farmers enjoying record milk prices

Farmers are getting record high prices for their milk this month, and a local dairy expert says several factors are involved.

Zen Miller is the dairy and livestock agent at the UW-Extension's Outagamie County office. He says supply is down because California dairy farmers are dealing with a drought, and some farmers reduced the size of their herd during the recession. He says China also made a large powdered milk purchase, and that's impacting supply.

He says the higher prices could stick around for a couple of months.

Miller says higher prices come at a good time for farmers, because they've had some bad luck the past couple of years.
