Oshkosh schools holding referendum

The Oshkosh school district is holding a spending referendum next Tuesday.

The district is asking for almost $4 million in each of the next seven years to maintain programs and preserve teaching positions.

Sup. Stan Mack says they would use almost $1.5 million of it to upgrade technology. He says they need to stay competitive with other districts, and they want to provide students with a computer or tablet-type device.

Mack says they'd phase in that program over four years. He says teachers would get them first, followed by high school students, middle school students, and third through fifth graders.

The impact on the property tax levy would be 56 cents per thousand dollars of value. The owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $56 a year, if the referendum passes.
